Pakistan, India, Thanks

Thanks for agreeing to restart peace talks.

And this appears to be a genuine effort on both sides, not something coming from some external pressure. All praise to the courageous leaders.

Now, if we can just keep President Musharraf alive...

Good news for the world, and especially these two countries. Here's hoping.

We've only just begun

Wretchard at Belmont Club ties together several posts of his own and others on the subject of Saudi Arabia, 'The Cave of Djinns':

The money quote:

The status of Saudi Arabia is the fundamental issue in the War on Terror. Whether it is friend or foe is a matter that cannot be evaded indefinitely.

emphasis added

I fully concur with this. This is, at bottom, a fight between America and Wahabism. Iraq was liberated for several good and just reasons, but the underlying reason has not been discussed much. It was not about oil, or about WMD, or about Saddam. It was about positioning ourselves versus the Saudis.

I predict this is a subject that will get more and more discussion this year. We need to get serious about this. What has come so far, great and laudable as it has been, is really just the warm-up.

Dearth of posts

My apologies for the dearth of posts. Hang in there, good stuff will appear. :)
